Pendulum wall clocks are chock full of history. The first clocks that appeared in the average persons home were pendulum wall clocks, it is no coincidence that the reason these were the first clocks to appear in the average persons home was because they were actually the first mass produced time pieces after the big grandfather clocks. Pendulum wall clocks from bygone eras were simple mechanisms that used springs and long pendulums to keep time. The springs were wound tight and the pendulum swung back and forth keeping the time. They were very heavy and were hung high on the wall to allow for the length of the pendulum the longer the pendulum the less you would have to wind it. There are still some fine time pieces made this way.
Typically with today's designs, the pendulum on the clock is strictly for appearance, it may swing but that swinging movement is governed by internal motors. There is such a large variety of styles designed to fit in any decor. There are pendulum wall clocks that are designed to look like they are right out of the past, some of these pendulum type clocks are quite modern in appearance with chrome faces and mirrored faces. They are very ornate styles and very simple styles. The prices vary as much as the styles do.
The cost of these time pieces is dependent on a few factors. If the manufacturer is a well known maker of time pieces than this is going to drive the price up. If one of the pendulum wall clocks is especially ornate that will also guarantee a higher cost. It is far more expensive to buy one of the pendulum wall clocks that are considered to be antiques than it is to buy a new one from a less known manufacturer.
